Memories of Steve Dade

National Children’s Home, Alverstoke

I was sent to the children’s home in 1963 with my brother and two sisters Denise, Janet and Calvin.

Calvin and myself were in Hudson House with sister Peggy, Denise and Janet were in Wakefield House with sister Jessica. Mr Thomas was in charge at the time I was there and sister molly was head sister. I remember the great times we had building canoes and going to the Isle of Wight camping for summer holidays with Mr Friday or was it Mr Fright can’t remember. I went to Privett School which has now gone. The tower in Clayhall Road was something to be seen when demolished. Guilkiker Point was another place we all went to. I had so many good times to many to list and I was very shocked when I saw the home gone. Other children I remember were Donald Mather, George and Donald Dodds, Denise and Sally Glancy, Shelia. Margret, Janet and Mike Frampton. if anyone remembers me I would love to here from them. Unfortunately we had a fire a few years ago and I lost all my photographs.

Hope everyone is keeping well

Steve Dade.
