What’s Happening with RNH Haslar?

A number of years ago RNH Haslar became a tri-services hospital on the closure of the Air Force and Army hospitals. The services take it in turns to run the hospital.

It was then announced that the hospital was to close in , up to seven years. Since then there have been protests through the town with petitions sent to the Government. It has been reported that a number of the service personnel have resigned. There have been a number of announcements the current result being that the A & E has closed but still has a satellite role to Queen Alexandra in Cosham. The hospital is being taken over by the NHS.

Well now we know, Haslar is to become a ‘diagnostic treatment centre’, where a large number of operations will be carried out to help cut waiting lists. It is due to start in the next year with £750,000’s worth of work to be carried out on one of the blocks, with next being the 250th anniversary of the hospital.

A boy was bitten by an adder after a number of call each hospital directed them to another, they finally went to QA, to be told that the only hospital with anti-venom was St Marys, but that if there was any problems it would have been too late to do anything by then.

For the full history of the closure non-closure part closure you may wish to look at the Portsmouth News Web site where you can search through the newspapers for all the articles on Haslar.
