Back to Why The Site?

The other day I was talking to the person who hosts the site (Webgloss) and I was going on a bit abit about my family history, and she said, ‘ah that’s why you do the Gosport web site’ (please excuse me if the words were a bit different). I sort of hit me that perhaps I am a bit more passionate (alright boring, about what I would like to do with it etc.) well I would like to spend all my time on it, but some people want their bills paid, so I have to work, well spend some of my time earning money, like most people and I would not want to make the Gosport Info site so commercial that it would scare people away.

I must admit, that it takes a while to explain why I am spending the time on the site to newspaper people and the alike.

I was born in Blakes Maternity Hospoital, Ham Lane, Elson, Gosport and have lived in Gosport for 44 years,  the following are as I understand but have not gone as far as looking for eveidence, my Dad was born in San Diago Rd., Gosport and My Mum in Brougham Street, Camden Town, Gosport, a Grandfather in Seahorse Street, Gosport and the other Grandfather in Durham Street, Camden Town, Gosport, one road away from where he died 70 years later in 2 Brougham Street.

I know that earlier generations are buried in the Cemetaries in Anns Hill, on both side of the family and both sides of the Anns Hill Road.

Perhaps I have spent too much time in Gosport, there has not been a time when I have been outside the town for more than a week, and then not that many times. When at Brune Park and they were doing some statistical lesson that would ask the class what their fathers did for a living, on all occasions at least a third were in the forces, mostly Navy, so were to spend around three years in the town. This I feel even adds to the possible interest in the site, as even if Gosport was the worst place that the people in those classes had ever been, it is still somewhere that they will have memories of. So this site is for you as much as those of us who are still here, or spent many years in Gosport.
