1) I would like to wish you all Greeting's for the Season and Best Wishes for the New Year. I would also like to thank everyone who has
sent in information, questions, photos, made suggestions and looked at the site over the last year. All suggestion for improvements to Gosport.info are most welcome.
2) I have set-up a
Blog for Gosport.info, it can be found at http://gosportinfo.blogspot.com/ . I am not quite sure of what I will be putting on it, so up to now I have been adding a few thoughts about Gosport, explaining things about Gosport.info and putting on events that are too short notice for the Gosport.info web site, it takes an hour or more to publish an update to the web site, whereas a minute plus the typing up time for the Blog. I look forward to receiving suggestions of regular type items to add to the Blog.
3) Google Adwords have added an new service, you may have noticed the , 'Advertise on this site' line at the bottom of the Google Adword. What you can now do is pick out a site that you feel may be good for your business and arrange to have a Google Adword campaign on that site, for example a Gosport business on Gosport.info. You could do the same with the sponsorship type adverts, but you do not know how many people respond to your advert, whereas the Adwords you only pay the amount you choose for each click to you web site. It does mean that part of what you pay goes to Google, but you have day to day control of your spending.
4) You may have noticed the covers of the Chark and Beane detective stories by Peter Holman-Smith and links to his web site where you can now buy the books on PayPal (you now no longer have to join PayPal, just pay with a credit/ debit cards) a sterling price is shown. A number of the books have been sent to me so there does not have to be a high postage charge or a wait weeks for them to come from the USA, they will be sent from UK (Gosport).
5) Webgloss Web Design have changed their pricing structure. They no longer have the £5 and £10 per month packages, including design, building, hosting, search engine submission and updates, based on some set packages. You can now have an individually designed site including all of the above, extra pages and updates, for £15 per month plus the £20 domain fee (each year or two depending on the type of domain. They have said if you tell them when ordering your web site from them they will reduce the charge by £5 per month if you advise that you heard about them from me or Gosport.info. So you can have a web site for less than £150 a year, only £20 of it is paid upfront.
6) David Maber has produced a booklet about JACKIE (JOHN) SPENCER his life, family, death and burial. Computer-printed and if you wish to have a copy he would be willing to forward one if you would write sending him £3 inc. UK post. David Maber, 14 Little Lane, Alverstoke, Gosport. PO12 2LA. I know a number of people in the past have asked about 'Jackie Spencer Bridge' etc.
