1) Most weeks I receive e-mails to asking for information about Gosport or the past, or how to find records of the past. I understand that some do receive replies. This week one person
asked me to remove the request, as they had received a number of replies, including a very full description of where a road could be found. I had never heard of the person who provided the information, so it seems
that some are happier contacting people direct, rather than via me or the web site. If you do have a request for information, you can have any replies via me or your may receive more, if you give an e-mail address
to be added to your request.
2) I have received a few e-mails from those asking to add Gosport businesses or organisations to Gosport.info,if you are looking for a Gosport businesses or organisation, they are
being added all the time, so please check the site. If you have a business or organisation with links to Gosport, please let me know, someone may find it , and it cost nothing.
3) I have not received the
number of What's Ons that I once did, so if you see someone looking at posters in Gosport and writing in a note book or perhaps talking to a dictating machine, it may be me. If you have events , please send an
e-mail , phone or fax, or send or leave your event poster to me or a contact point, to save me standing in front of posters and talking to himself (in to a tape recorder). I have added to the What's on section over
the last couple of weeks.
4) I have reorganised the Requests page, removing items that have been sorted out and tidying up the pages, so you may not find items on the pages that they were on. The number of
pages with requests on have also been reduced.
5) I have had a Skype account for a number of years and MSN Messenger one for even longer, I have not publicised it as I did not know how many had it. I have now
heard that someone who I know has Skype and a number with MSN, so I am going to add both to my contact details, for voice contact, Skype Name; ianrjeffery MSN Messenger:ianrjeffery@hotmail.com . 6) You may have noticed the advert/ link for 'Mudlark' by John Sedden. This book was written by someone born in Portsmouth, but has spent many years
living in Gosport, he has written a number of historical books about, Gosport, Portsmouth and the War. The book is a novel aimed at teenagers, I read it on a sunny Sunday afternoon in my sisters and brother-in-laws
garden. I started then reached chapter 10, I had to keep going, to the end. I remember the Mudlarks from going over to Portsmouth when I was about 6 years old, well I know the new pontoon was being built by the
railway line and The Hard Interchange. The book goes through life during the first world war, the way people lived and some of the things they did, including to others, something to learn for today. Finishing with
what some people had to do, for everybody else, even if they did not intend to become involved. I found the end reminded me of what happened to people of a young age, perhaps to a teenager, they would see what could
have happened to them at their age in the past. The book is £4.99 and is available from Amazon, I admit that if you buy it via the link on Gosport.info I would receive about 25p, though I would use any income for
the site, to avoid this, you can buy it from another place or Amazon without click the link on the site.
