You may have noticed the advert/ link for 'Mudlark' by John Sedden. This book was written by someone born in Portsmouth, but has spent many years living in Gosport, he has written a number of historical books about, Gosport, Portsmouth and the War. The book is a novel aimed at teenagers, I read it on a sunny Sunday afternoon in my sisters and brother-in-laws garden. I started then reached chapter 10, I had to keep going, to the end. I remember the Mudlarks from going over to Portmouth when I was about 6 years old, well I know the new pontoon was being built by the railway line and The Hard Interchange. The book goes through life during the first world war, the way people lived and some of the things they did, including to others, something to learn for today. Finishing with what some people had to do, for everybody else, even if they did not intend to become involved. I found the end reminded me of what happend to people of a young age, perhaps to a teenager, they would see what could have happened to them at their age in the past. The book is £4.99 and is available from Amazon.
