Family Learning at Brune Park Community College

We are running a series of FREE workshops and short courses aimed at families in our community with children between the ages of 10 – 14. Come and spend time having fun whilst learning with your family and meeting other families. Booklets and leaflets can be found at various local points including libraries, health centres, and leisure centres. Wednesday 21st September - Workshop 1 You and Your Teenager - explores issues facing parents throughout the period of your child's secondary education.

Wednesday 28th September - Workshop 2 Exploring ICT in the Family - explores the concept of 'family' through use of ICT packages. You will create a presentation working together as a family.

Wednesday 5th October - Workshop 3 Working Together - participants will use photographs and memories to create stories.

Wednesday 12th October - Workshop 4 Family Fitness - families take part in an evening of fitness fun in the gym, pool and -for adults only - the fitness suite.

Leading on from the workshop taster sessions, we have a series of short courses on offer -

Wednesdays, November 2nd to December 7th - Course 1 Learning with ICT/Supporting Your Teenager - linked to the first 2 workshops, focuses on separate subject areas to help you as parents to support your child's schoolwork, understand the impact of recent technology on the curriculum and have fun!

Wednesdays, January 4th to February 8th - Course 2 Family Fitness for Fun - linked to the workshop, the focus is on fun whilst attaining a level of fitness and working together as a family.

Wednesdays, February 22nd to March 29th - Course 3 Coping with Your Teenager - linked to the first workshop, a course for parents/carers which has been successfully run before from this venue, employs the use of outside agencies and enables participants to share experiences and promotes discussion of issues relating to teenagers and parents.

Wednesdays, April 19th to May 24th - Course 4 Routes into Higher Education - this course will be by invitation and explores
routes into studying for careers, a course tailored to those taking part.

Wednesdays, June 7th to July 12 - Course 5 Working Together - linked to the workshop, families work together to produce a series of photo stories.

All of the above workshops and courses are free of charge as part of our Family Learning Programme. We are also offering Yoga throughout the year from the end of October. However, a fee will be charged for these sessions.
