On Ascension Day the children went into school and got their mark, went together into the church
service and had a holiday for the rest of the day. Mrs. Mansell used to go to St. John’s Church and Sunday School as well as to the school. On Whit Sunday there was a service on the vicarage
lawn. There was a procession from the church. The girls wore white dresses and white socks and shoes and panama hats. They carried flowers. The Rev. R. O’Gorman Power went into
school every Friday to teach scripture. Two girls from Standard Ex VII went to water the flowers in church once a week and got out of scripture.
