- I wonder if you could help I am doing my family tree on Dobbs I live Kingston Upon Hull Yorkshire, and I have found that my ancestors have come from Gosport- Alverstoke -Hampshire. My Great great great granddad was Thomas Dobbs born 1816 he married a Mary Miles 1812-Thomas was a malster working at a brewery in Stoke Road. They had 8 children all born in Stoke Road I do know the names Channon,Turnbull, Davidson, Stevens[Stephens] are all connected to this family. I would like to know if there are any other members of the family still living in Gosport I would like to hear from them. Gosport looks a very nice place to live and I am very interested in the history of the people their and how the place has changed over the years, as my family has come from that area. thanking you Susan Oliver nee Dobbs (Added 9th April 2006)

- I am searching family history and have a great grand mother born in Gosport but do not have a last name, she was married to Henry Bisgrove her first name is BOSINO. She had three children Fanny, Maria and Sarah Ann. Fanny was born in Malta about 1868, Maria was born in India about 1864 and Sarah Ann in Liverpool at about 1877. Will you be able to help? Sarah is my grand mother, married to Edward Scott, (fathered my father, Henry Charles Scott)Edward was a goldsmith.Waynewright Scott

- I am seeking assistance with my ancestors, family name Puflett. Robert Puflett married Sarah Ann Stokes on 9th May 1808 at Alverstoke. I know that Robert was a baker therefore possibly listed in trade directories. There were six children born in either Alverstoke or Gosport between 1808 and 1819. The family then moved to London. I am attempting to establish if there were any other Pufletts in the area during this time or earlier. My problem is compounded by the fact that I believe the spelling of the surname has varied quite a lot. Thank you Jennifer Anderson (Added 30th April 2006)

- I’m researching the Cocks family tree. Augusta Maud Cocks lived at 8 Little Beach in 1887. Has the name of this road been changed? I can’t find it on a modern street map. Could it have been Little Anglesey Road which runs past the beach? Many thanks Marilyn (Added 5th June)

- Little Beach wasn't Anglesey Road, but was in the old part of town - one of the little streets around by the ferry, between Holy Trinity Church and Camper & Nicholsons - now long gone, but at the time inhabited by the local watermen and other seafaring folk. This I know, as a relative of my wife's lived there too (no.6, I believe) – Nigel Newman (Added 17/12/06)

- I am trying to trace my Grandfathers ancestors. My Grandfathers name was Henry Plowman and I was always under the impression that he came to Ireland from  Yorkshire. I do not know where in Yorkshire. Last week while going through some papers of my late mother (her maiden name was Plowman) I came across an address in Gosport and my mother was writing to a Mrs Jim Plowman. Mrs Plowmans address was 1 Victoria Place, Stoke Road, Gosport.  This lady lived at this address in 1948 to 1952 according to the slips of papers I found.  I am wondering if any of your readers would have any idea if there are any relatives of Mrs Jim Plowman in Gosport now and if so I would be delighted to receive any information that may fill in the gap re my Grandfather Henry Plowman.  I believe henry was born approx 1862.  I look forward to receiving any information.  Please feel free to print my e-mail address with this request Regards, Eileen Landy belmonthouse@eircom.net (Added 11th June 2006)

There is a possible connection with PAFFORD’s of Rowner who were associated with Grange farm that l would like to follow up. Rachel (Added 27th August 2006)

- My mothers niece born November 1900. The family disappeared during the 1920s and were believed to have emigrated. I found the death of mothers brother Horatio Gould in 1931. Gertrude Alice Gould died in 1989 at At St. Vincent House, Forton Road, Gosport, in November 1989, she was unmarried and had worked as a secretary. My mother died in February of the same year aged 93. She often wondered what had happened to Gertrude and the rest of her family. I wonder if anyone remembers her?
