- My great grandfather, Arthur Lewin, was from Gosport. He was born there in the mid-1800's . He was a widower with 2 sons and in the British Army stationed in India, when he met and married my great grandmother, Eliza Corbet who was from Guernsey Island in the Channel Islands. He married her and took her to India, where she had 3 children. When he died, she returned to Britain, and then later took the children to Canada. I have no idea about the Lewins. I would like to learn more about them from Gosport history. Can you assist me? Nola Miller (Added 20th January 2008)

- If any of these names are familiar to anyone, I would be pleased to hear from you. I am a Canadian seeking my paternal grandfather's relatives. William Charles Brown was born at Alverstoke in 1884 and shipped to Canada as one of the "home children" in 1900 through the Barnardo organization; he died at The Somme in 1916; William was one of two sons of Margaret Ann Flux and William Brown; his younger brother was Ernest. For unknown reasons, William Brown absconded to Essex with the two children about 1887. Margaret never saw them again and the children were lead to believe that their mother was dead. Margaret later married James Job Street; between 1890 and 1896 Margaret gave birth to Thomas William and James Frederick (twins), Charles Henry, Grace Ethel and Albert George Street. Margaret was widowed in 1898. In the 1901 England Census she is living at 15 Trinity View in Gosport (a charwoman). Margaret she may have subsequently married an unknown Skinner. Her son Albert's WW I Pension Records list his mother as Mrs. M. Skinner. Margaret had a brother Charles Frederick Flux born about 1861; he was in the Royal Navy in 1881; he later married a widow Rhoda Newman (nee Bristow); they were also living at Gosport  in 1901; they had three daughters, Daisy , Dorothy May and Florence Flux; only Florence survived childhood. - I am in the process of researching my family history and would be pleased  to hear from anyone in the Gosport area who could help. My Gt.Gt.Grandfather was George Cole Curtis (1848-1909) - born in Fareham,  his parents were William and Elizabeth Curtis. George married Ann Warwick (1853-1942) on the 17th February 1876. Their children were William (Born 1877),Charles Alexander (My grandfather  1878-1940),Cecilia(or Lucy) (born 1880, Herbert (Born 1881),Ernest (born  1884),Annie (Born 1887),Louise (Born 1892) and Albert (Born 1896). The information regarding the children was obtained from the census returns  of 1881,1891 and 1901. They were living in Fareham in 1881 and at 10 Zetland Road, Gosport in 1891  and 1901. Charles Alexander married Lizzie Smith (1882-1954) on 5th December 1906 at  Alverstoke Parish Church. They lived in Woodstock Road, Gosport and had 2 children, Charles James (my  father 1908-1974) and John Miller (1911-197?). I believe Louise's married name was Cole (or Coles) and they had a son  called Jack.

Unfortunately my family has had no contact with Gosport since my  grandmother's death in 1954, I was only 2 at the time so my memories are  non existent!!

- BOWN - Looking for  info on ancestors or descendants or my gf Walter William Bown b. The Vine Inn  Stoke Road Alverstoke July 2, 1880.  (Emigrated to Canada  1895) Father was Benjamin  b. Winchester c. 1835; Mother was Annie Carter (married  1875) Benjamin's father  was also Benjamin born Winchester c. 1804. Siblings of Walter  born Portsea: Benjamin Charles - b. 1878 - no info after 1896; Annie - b.  1876 - married to Greenidge - 1902 - Southampton - 2 children Lilian and  Benjamin. believe Benjamin  Sr. (b. 1835) had siblings all born Winchester: Charles, Letitia, Jane,  Ellen, Walter. - I wonder whether anybody has information (and/or  photos?) of Gomer Farm at Stokes Bay? My grandmother, Hilda May PETT, was born  there in 1888. Also does anybody have any photos of Holly Street  before its redevelopment? My other grandmother, Ellen Martha LAMING, was born at  No. 21. - Kath Voller (nee Murtagh) asks is there any relative in Gosport or surrounding areas of a family whose surname is ‘Russell’. There is a Christine, Alexander, Norman, David or John. The parents were Eric and Iris Russell . They lived in Beryton Road, then Portal Road. Then emigrated to Australia. They went on the Canberra. We had the address but due to moving ourselves, we have lost their address in Australia. Chrissy was a very close friend of my sister Eileen. I do remember there was an Uncle Norman and Auntie Rose and an aunt in the old Lee Road, 30/3/08
